WHAT PEOPLE SAY

I gave my dad the actual number. He cried. Then laughed. Then framed it.

★★★★★ · Priya, London · verified

The restraint is the joke. Beautifully deadpan.

★★★★★ · Tom, Leeds · verified

Mum ranked higher than Dad. There is now a family dispute.

★★★★☆ · Els, Bristol · verified

THE ORIGIN

Inspired by a story Michael Stevens (Vsauce) told on The Rest Is Science, co-hosted with Hannah Fry. An honest ranking of a dad among all ~2 billion of them. We just built the mug. Inspired by, not (yet) endorsed by, the podcast.

QUESTIONS

Is the number actually real?

Yes. rank = round(slider position × N), where N is the documented global count for that relation, sourced from UN population data and other cited sources.

How much is it?

£9.99 for the standard mug, £14.99 for the magic heat-reveal version. Shipping is charged at cost: £3.25 standard (Royal Mail Tracked 48) or £4.72 express (Royal Mail Tracked 24).

What’s the magic heat-reveal mug?

An 11oz mug that arrives plain black. Pour in a hot drink and the rank appears. The reveal gets its own reveal. Everything is added to the cart as the standard mug; upgrading to magic is one tap.

Can I return it?

Because every mug is personalised, we can’t accept change-of-mind returns. Faulty items are covered by your statutory rights.

Where is it made and shipped?

Printed to order on an 11oz ceramic mug in the UK or US — whichever is nearest you — dispatched in 1–2 working days, shipped worldwide.

Who prints it, and what about the footprint?

Every mug is printed to order by Prodigi, at whichever of their UK or US facilities is nearest you — so US orders are printed in the US, with no long-haul shipping or import duties. Nothing is made until someone orders it, so there is no warehouse of unsold mugs. Prodigi publish their own sustainability commitments: local production close to the customer, plastic-free recycled packaging, water-based inks, and mugs built to last. Prodigi’s sustainability page

What if the rank is unflattering?

The joke is precision, never cruelty. Even a low rank is loving mischief, and entirely honest.

Is the tree actually real?

Yes. We plant a real tree for every mug, funded via Ecologi. It’s dated, verifiable and counted in public, the same way the rank is.

ONE MUG, ONE TREE

Shipping a novelty mug around the world has a footprint. We don’t pretend otherwise, so we plant a real tree for every mug, funded via Ecologi. Dated, verified, and counted in public. The rank isn’t the only honest number here.
